The updated brochure “Jewish Vienna – Heritage & Mission” provides a comprehensive insight into the rich history and vibrant Jewish life in the Austrian capital and is an indispensable companion for all those wishing to discover Jewish Vienna.

The brochure gives an overview of important points of interest, memorials, museums, and service points. It highlights the far-reaching historical connection between Vienna and its Jewish population, tells of their formative contributions to the economic, scientific, and cultural development of the city up until 1938, chronicles the Shoah and its dramatic consequences, and sheds light on the revival of Jewish life in present-day Vienna.
Particular emphasis is placed on Vienna’s 2nd district, Leopoldstadt, as a central hub of modern Jewish life – with a plethora of shops, kosher supermarkets, restaurants, synagogues, and education centers.
The brochure was published by the Jewish Museum of Vienna and the Jewish Welcome Service Vienna in cooperation with the Jewish Community Vienna, the Vienna Tourist Board, and Wien Holding. It is available free of charge at the Jewish Museum of Vienna, from the Vienna Tourist Board, and at the city information office in City Hall.
