At the beginning of December, a memorial stone was unveiled on Mariahilfer Straße in memory of the fate of the Bibring family: the parents were deported and murdered by the Nazis, the children escaped on a Kindertransport. Harry Bibring was in Vienna at the invitation of the JWS several times over the years.
As a 14 year-old, Harry Bibring (1925-2019) was able to flee from Vienna to England with his sister Gerta (Freimark) on a Kindertransport in 1939. He never saw his parents Michael and Lea again. To the very end, Harry spoke tirelessly about his story at many schools in England and Austria.
The Jewish Welcome Service has been fortunate to welcome Harry to Vienna on several occasions. Whether as part of the visitor program “Welcome to Vienna”, in which his nieces and nephews have since already taken part. Or on the occasion of witness projects in cooperation with the Austrian Holocaust Memorial Service (GEDENKDIENST). The memorial stone was placed on the initiative of the Bibring family.
